News 2021-22

Rocks, Relics and Rumbles

Year 3 had an exciting time making their volcanoes erupt as part of their topic. They built their own volcanoes and then said goodbye to them as they erupted on the playground.

Cricket Coaching

On the 14th January we were lucky enough to be visited by two cricket coaches from Warwickshire County Cricket. All of the KS2 classes had an hour with the coaches who delivered some fun cricket activities to develop the children's skills. 

Y5/6 Dodgeball

On the 25th November a group of Y6 children took part in the KSSP Dodgeball competition- some of it even took place in the dark with fluorescent paint/ tape used!

The children worked well as a team and won the competition. Well done all!

Inclusion Event

On the 25th November children from across KS2 took part in an Inclusion festival at BCU and they came away with runners-up medals. Well done to all of those that took part.

Sporty week

Mrs Taylor had a very busy with three competitions in one week.

Monday 15th November - a group of children took part in the Y3/4 athletics competition at Stockland Green. They participated in a number of athletic events and had a really enjoyable evening.

Wednesday 17th November - Boys from across the school took part in a Boys festival where they tried out some different sports at Stockland Green.

Friday 19th November - Mrs Taylor took a group of children from across KS2 to a Panathlon competition. It gave the children an insight into the competitive sports that children with disabilities and special needs engage in.

Girls Active

On the 18th October Mrs Taylor took a group of girls to Stockland Green to take part in a girls active day.  this involved the girls in taking part in lots of physical activities that they could share back in school with their friends at breaktime and dinnertime. This is run so that the girls may consider becoming sports apprentices when they move on to secondary school. Well done to all the girls that took part.

Bikeability

The week beginning the 20th September we were lucky to have our Bikeability training for this year. Childern from years 3 and 4 were taught how to ride a bike, how to be safe  and how to look after their bike. Meanwhile, Years 5 and 6 were taught all about riding safely and were taken out on the roads to put their hard work into practice. All of the children were amazing and we now have some very careful cyclists.

Bee Week

We started the year with a WOW writing week based on the book Bee and Me. All of the year groups chose a different genre to produce some writing about bees. everyone had the chance to meet a local beekeeper and there was also a competition for each class to come up with a healthy snack containing honey. The entries were judged on Friday by Mrs Bromley, Mr Husted and Mrs Ross in a special assembly where each class had to present their snack with an advertising campaign. 

 

 

 

News 2020-21

Head Boy/Head Girl

Once again this year the appointment of our Head Boy and Head Girl took place. Year 6 had to apply for the position and then the Year 6 team judged which  boys and girls submitted the best applications. Hasan, Jack and Sundar were chosen for the boys and Daisy, Lily Mae and Maddison were chosen for the girls. All of the candidates had to speak to the whole school in assembly and they all did a fantastic job telling the children why they were the best candidate. All of the children and staff then voted and Maddison and Jack were elected. Well done to everyone.

 

Monday 8th March start/end of day times

Firstly , thank you for your continued support and maintaining social distancing around school.  When we come back to school on the 8th March we will continue with the times we were using before Christmas.

Families will come together at the same time and leave at the same time, working on the surname of the oldest child in the family. 

The new times are: 

                   A-F    8:40am - 3:05pm 

                   G-M    8:45am -3:10pm 

                   N-Z    8.50am -3:15pm           

  For example, if your oldest child's surname begins with the letter M, this child and all younger siblings (regardless of surname) will start school at 8:45am and finish at 3:10pm. 

If you are unsure of your child's new start/finish time, please call school to check.

TT Rockstars

On Frday 15th January we launched TT Rockstars in school which is a website that helps children learn their times tables. We had a special assembly to start the day, the children dressed as rockstars and there has been some great work going on with the children even competing against their teacher.

Court Farm Family Christmas - Thursday

The children had a great 'Boxing Day' today; filled with great fun and excitement! EYFS - Y3 had a virtual magic show which they all thoroughly enjoyed and were kept entertained by Magic Gareth. Y4 - Y6 took it in turns to have a silent disco in the hall. All of the classes also took part in our Rudolph Run, raising money for John Taylor Hospice.

Court Farm Family Christmas - Tuesday

 More fun today - all dressed in pyjamas for Christmas Eve. The children have been very busy making stockings, finishing off their Christmas tree decorations, making presents for each other and decorating their mugs for their hot chocolate. In the afternoon they all watched a film and enjoyed a hot chocolate and their decorated biscuits.

News 2019-20

The Marlene Shaw Award

The Marlene Shaw Award for Excellence this year goes to Joyce Mukusa. Joyce has been with us for seven years and throughout her time at Court Farm  has been an absolute joy. She has always worked to the best of her ability, shown kindness to all around her, brought her smile to the classroom every day and demonstrated all of the Court Farm values to the highest standard. We wish her every success as she continues her journey at Sutton Girls Grammar School.

The Marlene Shaw award  is given and funded by our proud ambassador, Malcolm Shaw. Marlene and Malcolm attended Court Farm and met when they were five. Many years later they married. Malcolm gives this award every year at our Year 6 award evening to honour the memory of Marlene. Many thanks for his continued support.

OFSTED REPORT

Following our recent inspection, our report is now available here. It was a very positive experience and the school was judged to be Good in all areas. OFSTED reported:

"Raising aspirations is at the heart of Court Farm Primary school. Leaders want pupils to do well  academically and personally. Pupils are encouraged, challenged and
supported to do their best. Leaders are deeply committed to ensuring that pupils can ‘dream, believe, achieve’.
Pupils try hard with their learning. They concentrate on what they are doing andenjoy working together. They are getting much better at remembering what they
have learned. They love to talk about what they know. They share information and key facts with confidence. Teachers help them to make links between different
subjects.

Routines and expectations are clear. Everyone focuses on learning. Pupils have positive attitudes and behave well in school. They are polite and use good manners.
Pupils show respect to those around them. They are friendly and welcome visitors warmly."

Year 6 Residential

Year 6 spent a  week at Outward Bound, Aberdovey from 2nd December to 6th December. They had an amazing time and showed great resilience and teamwork when faced with some very difficult activities. They did a mountain walk which included some rock climbing, kayaked across the estuary, did a mini-gorge walk at night and did a mega-gorge walk during the day. They had a fabulous time and were a real credit to the school. Click here for more photos.

Erdington Challenge

On 21st November we hosted the Erdington Callenge workshop for gifted and talented pupils. A group of Y6 children attended the workshop which was about writing suspense and mystery texts. 

Y3/4 Athletics

On the 13th November a group of Y3/4 children took part in an athletics competition at Stockland Green. The team took part in a number of athletic actvities and performed exceptionally well coming 2nd overall. Well done to all of the children who took part.

Art  in Maths

In the week beginning the 11th November the whole school had a focus on art in maths. Each year group looked at a famous painting with geometric properties. The children then recreated the painting and we held an art sale to sell the work to their parents.

Year 6 Class Assembly

Many thanks to all of the parents and families that turned up to our first class assembly of the year on Wednesday 16th October. Year 6 shared with us all that they had learnt about the history of space exploration. It was truly informative and we all learnt some interesting new facts and about how resilient pioneers have to be. Well done to everyone for speaking so clearly and singing so well.

National Space Centre

On Monday 7th October Year 6 visited the National Space Centre in Leceister as part of their topic 'Out of this World.' They had the opportunity to explore the centre to learn about the creation of the universe and to look at the history of the exploration of space. They also visited the planetarium and watched a film about being an astronaut. everyone had a great time and learnt a lot.

Author Visit

We were very lucky to have World Book Day Illustrator, Rob Biddulph, visit school,on Wednesday 2nd October. he did an assembly for EYFS and KS1 where he spoke about his new book, Show and Tell and showed the children how to draw an alien. Everyone had an amazing time and learnt all about his inspirations for stories and illustrations.

 

 

 

 

News 2018-19

Shakespeare Experience

On Friday 22nd March the whole school took part in a Shakespeare experience. Each class had a 40 minute workshop based around the Shakespeare play of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' where they learnt the story and then performed a small part of a scene. At the end of the day the whole school came together and put their parts together to tell the whole story. Every child was involved and they had a great time doing drama.

Year 5 Residential

On 18th March Y5 set off for their three day residential at Condover Hall in Shrewsbury. They enjoyed some great outdoor activities which included climbing, abseiling, zip wire and even had fun at night with a campfire and run around quiz. They did lots of teambuilding games and had a great time.

Governor Buddy Day

On Friday 1st March we held our annual Governor Buddy Day in school. Governors came into the school for the morning, starting with attending celebration assembly and finishing up by having lunch in the hall with the children. In between they were interviewed by the school ambassadors, had a tour of the school and got to spend some time in their link classes.  

Mexican Day

On Thursday 14th February there was a lot of excitement  in year 5 as they held a Mexican day as part of their topic for this term. The children had great fun taking part in a range of Mexican activities including doing Mexican art, and making Mexican food.  

Chinese Day

On Tuesday 5th February , as part of their topic on China, Year 3 celebrated Chinese New Year  with  a Chinese Day. They dressed in red and did activities all to do with Chinese New Year.  They ended the day with a party in Reception who were also celebrating Chinese New Year as part of their focus for the week.

Wow writing

After February half term the children returned to school to find that their classrooms had been transformed into a scene from a classic book. The children then spent the next few weeks being inspired by the classic texts to write their own. Across the school we looked at Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, The Gingerbread Man, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Hobbit and The Hounds of the Baskerville.

Reverse Advent Calendar 

This year we thought about how we could give during Advent rather than just receive. In assembly, we talked about how the Christmas story is still alive today and not just something that happened 200 years ago. Each phase were asked to bring in different donations for the Erdington foodbank - toiletries, food, treats for Christmas. Your contributions were greatly appreciated and the children have certainly given the gift of hope and joy to many families this Christmas time and you should feel very proud of them.

Christmas Workshops

The week beginning the 3rd December we held our Christmas parent workshops and what a great success they were. Year groups got together and invited families in to work with their children to make and sell Christmas fayre. Many thanks to all of those families that supported this event  and help us to raise money for School Fund.

Locksmith's House

 On Friday 9th November, Year 2 visited the Locksmith's house in Willenhall as part of their topic. They learned how to assemble locks, had a look around the old Victorian house and even got to do some Victorian chores. Everyone had a super time and represented the school really well.

Multi Faith Week

The week beginning 22nd  October we had a multi-faith week in school. Each class studied a different faith and based their work around it for the week. Children looked at places of worship, holy texts, customs and traditions and celebrations. Year 1 visited St Margaret's Church, Year 2 a Sikh Temple, Year 3 a Hindu Temple, Y4 a Buddhist Temple, Year 5 a Synagogue and  6 visited the Islamic Experience Exhibition.

Hockey

On Tuesday 17th October a group of Y5/6 took part in the KSSP Hockey competition at Erdington Academy. This was the first time that the children had competed in a hockey tournament and they had great fun. They had a great team  ethic and showed great sportsmanship. Well done to everyone who took part.

Lego Discovery Centre

On Monday 8th October Y1 visited the new Lego Discovery Centre in Birmingham as part of their topic about Toys. They really enjoyed themselves going around looking at the Lego village, building with the lego and going on some lego rides...they even got very wet in the 4D cinema! 

Coventry Transport Museum

On Wednesday 3rd October Year 3 visited Coventry Transport Museum as part of their topic about transport. They had a fantastic day looking at modes of transport through the ages and even got to design their own transport. The children really enjoyed their visit and learnt lots.

Children's Mental Health Week

The 7th - 11th February is Children's Mental Health Week and we are doing lots of activities in school to support this most important week.  Since its first-ever week in 2015, Children’s Mental Health Week has reached more people than ever. Health 4 Life

On Friday 28th January we had a 'Funday Friday' focusing on healthy lifestyle choices. All of the children took part in activities organised by their teacher around healthy eating, exercise and gardening. Everyone had an enjoyable day and learnt about making healthy choices. 

Christmas Celebrations

We had lots of celebrations in the week leading up to Christmas. EYFS and KS1 had a wonderful trip to see Fr Christmas at the Safari Park and KS2 enjoyed a a fabulous production of Cinderella at Sutton Town Hall. Our productions were a great success as well but it was a shame that we couldn't invite parents in to see them.On Christmas jumper day all of the classes took it in turns to have a disco in the hall and they had a great time.

Playground Work

A very exciting project started on 22nd November with the removal of all of the old equipment in the small playground. Over the next few months the playground will be transformed into a much nicer and more active environment for our children...watch out for more information coming soon!

PCSO visit

Our local PCSO, Duncan, visited Year 6 on the 17th November to deliver a workshop on county lines awareness. The children listened carefully and were a credit to the school with their mature approach to this serious topic.

Faith Week

The week beginning 18th  October we had a multi-faith week in school. Each class studied a different faith and based their work around it for the week. Children looked at places of worship, holy texts, customs and traditions and celebrations. Un fortunately, we were unable to visit our usual places of worship because of COVID except for  Year 6 who visited the Islamic Experience Exhibition.

Black History

Mrs Bromley launched Black History Week on 4th October with a special assembly and a challenge for everyone. She asked the children to research someone from England who we hadn't heard of before and that she would use this work to create a display outside her room. Lots of children contributed to this and we all learnt about new people that we hadn't heard of before. Well done to everyone who took part.

 

 

 

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book day on Thursday 4th March and asked the children to dress as Mr Men or Little Miss characters as this year we celebrate 50 years of these books. the children did a range of activities based on these characters and had great fun. 

Express Yourself

During children's mental health week (1st Feb) the children took part in lots of activities about looking after their mental health. The focus this year was about expressing yourself and we celebrated this on Friday by wearing something that expressed ourselves and spent the day doing lots of art activities.

Court Farm Family Christmas

We started our family Christmas week with the children opening a big box that had been wrapped and left in the classroom. This was full of goodies for the week ahead containing everything the children needed for all of their upcoming activities.

Court Farm Family Christmas - Wednesday

We started the day with our Christmas Nativity via Teams. Year 6 shared the Christmas story with everyone and all of the classes did sign language to a Christmas Carol or song. It was lovely that we could all come together virtually and share the Christmas message. The children have enjoyed their Christmas day celebrations - opening presents, having Christmas dinner and seeing a special person in a red suit!

Court Farm Family Christmas - Monday

The children have all come dressed in their Christmas jumpers and own clothes ready for the day. 

Today they have been very busy making decorations for their tree; placemats, name tags and crackers  for Christmas dinner; stockings; and a Christmas card for their family

Internet Safety

On Tuesday 5th October PCSO Long visited all of the classes in KS2 and delivered workshops on internet safety. He commented on how well behaved the children were in all classes and how much they learnt.

The Nanny Kim resilience Award

Each year we present the nanny Kim Award to a child who has shown resilience during the year. watch the video below to see who the recipient is this year.

Inclusion competition

A group of children represented the school in the Inclusion Festiavl at Nechells on Thursday 28th November. The children took part in a variety of activities and really enjoyed themselves, representing the school really well.

War Memorial

 As part of their topic, The Home Front, Y2 visited St Barnabas Church on Erdington High Street on the 27th November. They looked at several war memorials for fallen military personnel and laid two poppy wreaths at the memorial at the front of the church. Revd Joycelyn played the last post as children laid the wreaths. Revd Joycelyn explained how Erdington had been largely fields during the war, how the church had played a big part in the lives of many during the wars and they also listened to diary entries written by children in Erdington during WWII.   

Y3/4 Dodgeball

On the 21st November a group of Y3/4 children took part in a dodgeball competition at Greenwood Academy. They represented the school  well, worked well as a team and had great fun. Well done to everyone who took part.

WWII Workshop

On the 12th November Y5 attended a workshop in school which involved them re-enacting the life of a soldier during the Battle of the Somme. They handled some artefacts from the time and listened to diary extracts from soldiers. It was a really informative session and gave the children a real insight into how difficult the time was.

Y3/4 Multiskills

A team of Y3/4 children went to Stockl;and Green on Wednesday 16th October to take part in the KSSP Y3/4 multiskills competition. They worked tremendously well as a team and showed great sportsmanship throughout the evening. Mrs Taylor was very proud of all of them.

Warwick Castle

On Thursday 10th October Y4 visited Warwick Castle as part of their topic 'Reign Over Us'. They all had a memorable today, taking part in a workshop and exploring the castle and its grounds.

Locksmith's House

Y2 Multiskills

On Thursday 26th September a group of children from Y2 took part in the KSSP multiskills competition. They represented the school really well and Mrs Taylor was so proud of their effort, teamwork and behaviour. They managed to finish 3rd and we are all really proud of them.

Inspiring Minds

Every Wednesday during the summer term, a group of 14 children from Y5 have been attending an 'Inspring Minds' programme run by Bishop Vesey and Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls. The children have alternated visiting these schools and experienced what life would be like in a grammar school. They have also done some preparation and practice for the grammar school tests. The children have been a real credit to the school and been fantastic ambassadors.

Viking Experience

On Tuesday 19th March, as part of their topic on Vikings, Y6 were treated to a Viking experience during which they constructed a Viking longship and an anglo-saxon house. They had to work together using only bamboo sticks and elastic bands to build them and managed to fit in both. that they could all fit in. They also learnt some fascinating facts about working on a longship.

Science Week

During the week beginning the 11th March we celebrated National Science Week. The children attended assemblies about Science and took part in a Science day. For this the staff all prepared one fun science activity each and the children were split into mixed age groups and took part in the various activities. 

World Book Day

7th March - World Book Day.This year, we set a theme of Bedtime Stories. Pupils came into school in their pyjamas and a competition was set to decorate a potato into their favourite book character. The pupils had a fantastic time. We loved seeing how creative they got with their potatoes -there were some brilliant ones! Thank you to the parents for your cooperation in making this a fun day for the children. We hope they enjoyed the day!

Year 1 Victorian Day

On Thursday 7th February, Year 1 were taken back in time to experience life as a student in the Victorian times. They were fantastic at getting into character and looked brilliant in their outfits. Mrs Evans organised a day where the class experienced the activities of a typical day in a Victorian School.

Christmas Productions

It was lovely to see so many of you at our 3 Christmas productions in our last week of term. All of the children performed really well and it was a pleasure to watch them all. They all spoke clearly and sang beautifully. Well done to everyone.

Drumming

On the 10th December we were all treated to a great music assembly from our dohl and djembe drummers. Year 4 performed for the first time to the whole school and parents and the Year 5 and Year 6 elective groups also performed.  The children have made great progress and it was a pleasure to listen to their performance.

Think Tank

On the 3rd December Y5 visited the Think Tank to support their topic  on space. On the 6th December Y6 also visited  the Think Tank to support their topic 'Out of this World.' Both classes attended a workshop and then had the chance to visit the rest of the museum.

Tamworth Castle

 On Wednesday 14th November, Year 4 finished off their topic with a visit to Tamworth Castle. They had a tour around the castle  and took part in a dance workshop.  The children had a great time and were a real credit to the school.

World War 1 Workshop

On Tuesday 6th November Y5 and Y6 took part in a workshop to celebrate 100 years since the end of World War 1. They learnt about life in the war as a soldier and about local people who were involved in the war. The presenter said that the children were amazing. Well done, children for showing such respect on such an important issue.

Kings and Queens

Year 4's topic this half term is 'Reign Over Us' and they have been busy learning all about Kings and Queens of England. They have acted out the Battle of Hastings in the hall and on Thursday 18th October they had a Kings and Queens afternoon.A ll the children and staff dressed up as kings and queens and had a royal time!

Year 6 Assembly

On Wednesday 17th October Year 6 performed their class assembly, which they wrote themselves, about people who have inspired them. They delivered a lovely message about how parents can be a real inspiration and there were a few tears in the hall. Well done, Year 6.

Author visit

On Thursday 4th October, author Peter Bunzl visited school and did a writing workshop for Years 4-6. He talked about his Cogheart books, how he got his ideas and gave the children some tips on how to be good writers. He then sold some of his books and the children got signed copies.
